Resources for

North Beach Community Improvement

Here you will find references to several agencies and people who have helped the NBCIA in its mission and that you can contact with your ideas and concerns about the North Beach area.

Motorist Information Signs

Washington State Department of Transportation has a web site where businesses can apply for signage similar to that at the left advertising their businesses along SR109. There is a restriction: businesses adjacent the highway cannot obtain this kind of signage.

Beach Cleanup

Keeping our beaches clear of refuse and dangerous items is a project we can all enjoy and the rewards are great! Take a look at the Coast Savers web site to see when the next organized sweep will be. If you are interested in our area, look for the Washington Coast Cleanup Day link. Celebrate the effort to keep Washington's Pacific Coast clean by helping out.

Open Burning

Grays Harbor County controls open outdoor burning. For information on current restrictions read this and call (360) 249-5579.

Grays Harbor County Sheriff's Substation

A Grays Harbor County Sheriff Substation is located on State Route 109 about a mile and a half south of The Green Lantern Pub. For emergencies, call 911. For information or to report speeding or suspicious activities call the North Beach Substation at (360) 533 8765 or the County office at (360) 532-3284. If you think you may have a tip on illegal drug activities, call the Drug Task Force tip line at (360) 249-3050. To see the Sheriff's web page, click here.

Note: The Sheriff's office has repeatedly instructed attendees at the general membership meetings of the NBCIA that phone calls are the only way they can help us reduce drug and other criminal activities. They will often recognize the person(s) you are discribing and their modus operandi. We, the ordinary citizens can make a big difference, but only if we call.

Grays Harbor County Planning & Building

Call Brian Shea, Director of Planning and Building, at (360) 249-5579 to report problems with dilapidated buildings. To see the Planning and Building web page, click here.

"The squeaking wheel gets the grease" is an appropriate motto for improving our area. Old trailers and such fall under some County ordinances. If we call good things can happen.

Washington State Parks

Washington State Parks is a real stake holder in our North Beach area. The Griffiths-Priday State Park web site outlines the activities and assets of this beautiful day-use area. The NBCIA is investigating the possibilities of adding a boat launch, trails, and perhaps even an interpretive center. The NBCIA has enlisted State Parks in its efforts to develop the Copalis River as an expansion of the Griffiths-Priday State Park. You can read about this project here.

If you observe someone breaking park rules, defacing property or causing a public nuisance or disturbance, or just have questions about the use of the park, call (360) 289-3553. If the activity is criminal, call 911.

Proper Flag Etiquette

One thing we can all do to improve our community is to know how to properly display and dispose of our National Emblem. When we show proper respect for our national flag we honor all those who have given their lives for the freedoms we so often take for granted. If we see a flag that needs to be retired, we can speak to the owner and tell them where they can get information about appropriate disposal of the tattered flag. Here is a web site about the flag that covers a lot of common questions about display and disposal. And here is a Boy Scout site that lists several retirement ceremonies. The local fire department (360-289-3611) and the American Legion (360-532-9898) are both good resources for assistance in appropriate disposal.
